Book Reviews

Fallen (Fallen, #1) Fallen by Lauren Kate

My rating: 4 of 5 stars I really enjoyed this book and can't wait for the next! I can't believe I need to wait until September next year to know what's next. Fallen is The Story of Luce, a girl with a dark past that wants to leave behind when she gets enrolled in a reform school. Luce has a tendency to sees shadows hunting after her. The same shadows that she thinks are responsible for the death of Trevor, and the main reason why she was sent to this school on the first place. There she meets Daniel, Gabbe, Cam, Arianna and Penn. She feels this connection to Daniel, but quite can't put her finger on it, Daniel is always running from her and avoiding her questions constantly . Cam is a guy that sincerely seems to be interested in Luce, always caring, offering her gifts and constant company, support through all the changes that are happening in her life which they are overwhelming. The love triangle btw Cam, Luce and Daniel starts forming, who would she pick and why?? Pick up a copy of this fun read and figure it out yourself! Really entertaining read. View all my reviews >>

Prophecy of the Sisters (Prophecy of the Sisters, #1) Prophecy of the Sisters by Michelle Zink

My rating: 3 1/2 of 5 stars Loved Michelle's writing. It's beautiful. Really enjoyed getting immerse in this time period. Learn about who the sisters are. I was sincerely expecting more of the plot, and the concept, it felt a bit short. It was definitely one of the most visual books I've read in a long time.  I recommend this book to readers of this genre. It's a great read.View all my reviews >>

Soulstice (The Devouring, #2) Soulstice by Simon Holt

My rating: 4 of 5 starsThis book was great find. I read the first book on the series, and was excited to read the second. Soulstice explores the depth of Reggie's abilities, which are so interesting through and through. From the physics of it to the myth behind it. So different and intriguing, compare to other paranormal stories. The concept of the book is so entertaining, and different from anything I've ever read. I really enjoyed the crazy images that come to life drawn by fear, and the way characters, relate to their own sense self preservation, inside and outside of their head. How fears really come alive, making you think of if that were you exposed to the world by your own ghostly figures in the back of your own mind.I can't wait to read the next book!View all my reviews >>

The Splendor Falls

The Splendor Falls by Rosemary Clement-Moore

My rating: 3 of 5 starsI was really excited to read this book, for many reasons. First I love how thick it's. I love having a lot of information about he story I'm reading.. can't help it I'm a big fan of 400 + books. Also I like Rosemary's writing from her Maggie Queen books. This story was something completely different thought. Sylvie reminded me so much of myself at times made me laugh. The story was great and entertaining until i hit the paranormal side of it. I'm not going to lie I guess i was a bit disappointed. Don't get me wrong, I recommend this book because it did kept me interested for 600 pages to know what happens next. It's a page turner, but i guess I was disappointed with the answers to some of the most rhetorical questions the book ask. They don't feel quite answered. I do recommend other loves of the genre to hop on the boat, and go for the ride. View all my reviews >>

***** (4) Stars. "Marked" >>> Writters PC and Kristin Cast.

This is the first  book of the School of Night Series. Zoe Montgomery is "Marked", which in this amazing fiction book means, That she is been literally "Marked" by a vampire tracker to became one of them in the future. This means she has a crescent tattooed in the middle of  her forehead impossible to hide to anybody. Friends run from her, Boyfriend freaks... Family deserts her with fear. She also knows as everybody..."come on is common knowledge " that all fledglings must reside within 24 hours to the house of Night or she will die. The house of night is a Vampire school where you learn everything you need to know about becoming an adult vamp. They help students with the transition. Some make it throw the change after the 4 years some don't. Sometimes people's body's rejects the transformation. Her adorable grandma makes sure she makes it to HON after a terrible accident she has on her way to grandma were she gets to meet the goddess Nix that kisses her forehead and provides her an affinity to the elements. What does this means? Well you have to read the book to find out! Zoe takes the new name of Zoe Redbird her grandma's lastname when she starts school.Fits her better afterall she barely knows her father.

So far this is one of my favorite books/series I've read in long while The concept is super creative... The reasons for everything, show a world where Vampires and humans leave together, but where there is not that much trust between the races. Has adult language and is feels really true to the characters and their voices, which is fantastic.  There is a swing of emotions that you will hold the book and not put it down from the moment you start reading... Zoe has to balance, blood lust for her ex(Heath) , a new vamp love interest(Erik), the hate from her own family, meeting all new people that know she is different, and deal with the meanest and biggest things to come...

I highly recommend THE HOUSE OF NIGHT SERIES !@ (So far there is only 5 books out, the next one is coming out in Oct 09') I'll write small revs from all of them when i"m done.... and yes I'm almost done with all them...

**** (3 and 1/2) Stars. "The Awakening" >>> writter Kelley Armstrong.

In this second installment of this series Dark Powers, Chloe escapes the Edison group. The Edison group changed these kids genetically , pushing their families gene tendencies to certain powers.  Chloe is a" living science experiment – not only can I see ghosts, but I was genetically altered by a group "

In this second book relationships start to expand, and new characters appear in the mix. There is a triangle that starts shaping up slowly but surely. That should be enjoyable for all readers but doesn't develop to the pace I would hope.
Now I have to tell people my disappointment with this book. It felt so off, like it didn't gave any answers to my questions, and created more questions that made me feel woozy by the end of the book, and somewhat frustrated. I love Kelley Armstrongs writing, but it felt like the kids were running the whole time for 400 pages, without learning more about the characters , and see growth in them, Only Derek...  I guess I'll have to wait until the end of the trilogy to get my answers. Is certainly a good read but not as good as the first book. I'm excited thought to read the last one, love the way the book ends, gets you really interested on the next, but at the same time it feels like you could read the last one without the last 300 pages of this one..

Chloe is a somewhat lonely teen, age 15 that finds herself looking back to her mothers tragic death in a car accident years ago. Her dad a really wealthy man leaves her constantly, cared by nannies and house keepers. A week after her 15th birthday, things start happening to her,  she sees people that end up not being there...Some of them seem to even look dead, "gruesome burns in their face, weird scars". These characters run asking for help, she has no clue what is going on with her. Her father places her on a mental institute for young disturbed. She is diagnosed with Schizophrenia. Chloe starts doubting herself until she meets the other kids in the Lyle house.  That explain to her she is a necromancer. That she in actuallity can race the dead or talk to them, see things and have comunication with the spiritual world. Simon, Derek, Rae , Tory and Liz are the other kids in the home. After a night there,  an incident occurs with Liz, were she is taken away in the middle of the night, after believing she has a poltergeist following her, because when she gets mad things fly all over the place hurting other people around her. After that night, Chloe starts seeing Liz. Does that mean she is dead? What is going on at Lyle's house?

YOU CAN"T Miss this book. Is the first installment of "Darkest Powers". Can't wait to read more about this amazing author. Yes I went to the noble Barn over lunch and Bought "The Awakening" . *** (3) Stars. "Highway to Hell" >>> writter Rosemary Clemment Moore.

http://teensread.files.wordpress.com/2009/04/highwaytohell.jpg

This is the 3rd book in the series of Girl Versus Evil I've read so far. Yes I'm Always atracked first by the cover obviously, after all I'm a designer. In this series Maguie a 18 year old freshman in college now, goes out with her best friend Lisa on a spring break vacation. When everything literally goes to Hell. The other first 2 books in this Series were engaging and leave you wanting more, while this one seems lacking quite a bit. I would have to say the second installment of this series is a lot stronger than this one.  Overall is good read keeps you entratained, but lacks on character development and Plot.

***** (5) Stars. "The Mortal Instruments trilogy:  City of Bones, City of Ashes, City of Glass" >>>Writer Cassie Claire.

This Is an amazing series of books by the writer Cassandra Claire. In these books Clairy discovers that she not and ordinary girl. and she can "see" others. She finds out that she is one of many shadow hunters like her mother was before her. In this triology to get all the possible fictional characters, at the touch of your hand, werewolfs , wamps and fairies all under the same roof fighting the forces of evil, Valentine. CLairy and Jace have somewhat of a forbiden romance that develops slowly but surely. The last book of this triology Left me wanting more. More of the story, because so many things ended up unsaid and opened but at the same time this book is the perfect wrap to all the knots that were formulated on the other 2 before it. The characters show their true colors , some of them for the first time, an make the visuals more so amazing and the emotions flow.. Yeah if you are a faint hearted person...and avoid romance do not attemp to go here. I doubt anybody could stay away from this fabulous triology I miss the characters already.  I'll always want more of Clary, Jace and Simon. Always. =)
